What is the Piano Technicians Guild?

The Piano Technicians Guild (PTG), the official organization of Registered Piano Technicians, is the world's premiere source of expertise in piano service and technology.  The PTG has over 4,100 members throughout the United States, Canada and around the world.

The mission of the Piano Technicians Guild is to promote the highest possible standards of piano service by providing members with opportunities for professional development, by recognizing technical competence through examinations and by advancing the interests of its members.

What is a Registered Piano Technician?

A Registered Piano Technician (RPT) has passed a series of rigorous examinations on maintenance, repair, and tuning of pianos.  Only RPTs are authorized by the Piano Technicians Guild to use the words "Registered Piano Technician" and the trademarked logo shown below.

Note that an Associate member is one who has not passed the RPT exams, may be studying piano technology and working toward their RPT status, or may be a piano retailer, rebuilder, or refinisher.

6.  I will promote, in any way that I can, good will toward my profession and toward the music industry.

7.  I will engage only in business practices that are in accord with the antitrust guidelines as set forth by the Piano Technicians Guild.
